All 10 Tumakuru taluks declared drought-hit as water supply measures intensify
All 10 taluks of Tumakuru district are in the drought-hit category, with tanker supply and hired private borewells being used in affected areas.
Tumakuru: All 10 taluks in Tumakuru district have been brought under the drought-hit category, Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara said.
Speaking during the Praja Seva campaign at Gubbi, he said 102 taluks had been declared drought-hit in the first phase and all Tumakuru district taluks were included. A second phase of assessment is under way in additional taluks across Karnataka.
Drinking-water shortages have emerged in several areas. The government is supplying water by tanker where required and has also hired private borewells to ease the crisis, he said.
The condition of local water sources, the number of tanker-dependent villages, crop losses and the availability of water and fodder for livestock will remain key issues for the district administration as the drought continues.
